NHS Big Tea

On 5 July 2022, the NHS will mark 74 years of service.

This milestone will present opportunities to showcase how the NHS has innovated and adapted to meet the changing needs of each successive generation.

As part of celebrations, NHS Charities Together is asking NHS Trusts and Charities across the UK to take part in the biggest NHS Big Tea ever.

This is the perfect chance for NHS staff, patients and communities to come together for a moment of thanks after a challenging couple of years.

The NHS could not have achieved all it has in the past year without the skill and dedication of its people. So, grab a teapot, pop the kettle on and let’s get brewing.

Drs Asad Ali and Ashwin Ramachandra, co-chairs at NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The last year has been a very difficult one for all of us.  The pandemic has changed our lives forever and we have all been affected some way or another. There’s been an exemplary multi-disciplinary response from doctors, nurses, pharmacists, care workers, management teams and back office support staff, to name just a few, which has enabled us to tackle the COVID-19 response effectively. We have adapted well to the new virtual way of working which has allowed us to continue working within the governance process. 

“This has been one of the big factors which has allowed us to unlock the country slowly.  We would like to thank all of our teams and the wider teams for making the vaccination programme a success and of course, our population playing their part in taking up the offer of the vaccines in order to protect themselves and people they come in to contact with.

“We can all play a role in supporting the NHS in this birthday year, by volunteering, raising money for a local NHS charity, or by taking steps to look after our own health and using services wisely. We hope that you will be able to take part!”

Amanda Pritchard, NHS Chief Executive, said “No one in the country has been untouched by the events of the last two years and NHS staff along with our wonderful volunteers, workers who kept our shops and public services running and those who kept schools and offices open across the country are no exception.

“The NHS Big Tea is an excellent opportunity for communities to come together and pay tribute to brilliant staff and volunteers, who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic to keep us and our loved ones safe.

“The effects of the pandemic are still being felt even as the NHS and the country now looks to recover and rebuild, so the continued support of local communities remains as vital as it is hugely appreciated.”
